Adding to the white noise of the blogosphere

Elizabeth is dying to add a puppy to our family and we have been fortunate enough to locate a quality Dachshund breeder pretty close by. The cutie to the left is from that breeders latest litter. We're going to go pay her a visit tomorrow.

The problem, of course, of getting a new puppy now is not knowing what the living conditions will be come this summer. As we have been visiting and learning about various business schools, we have also been looking at the dog friendliness of each school. Not because my decision will be affected by, but so we can plan accordingly. Among the schools to which I have applied, here is what we have found:

Tuck: This may be the only business school where you can actually take your dog to class (assuming your dog is well behaved and you have your prof's permission). I don't believe, however, that you can have a dog in the grad student housing at Sachem Village. So, having a puppy at Tuck depends on housing. If you live off campus, it's definately a great place to have a puppy.

Yale SOM: It seems that pretty much no one at SOM actually lives in Grad Student housing, so the puppy friendliness really just boils down to the puppy friendliness of New Haven. Having a puppy here shouldn't be a problem.

Johnson: I'll be heading out to Cornell in two weeks, but from what I gather the students there tend to shy away from the grad student housing and secure their own apartments in town. Ithaca looks like it is a pretty dog friendly town, though.

Kenan-Flagler: If we go to UNC, then we need to put the puppy plans on hold. Kenan-Flagler has excellent grad student housing a mere feet from the school (Baity Hill), but unfortunately they do not allow pets.

The only "no-go" is Kenan-Flagler. If we go to UNC, I want to live in the apartments right next to the school. We want to go from two cars down to one, so being walking distance to school would be a huge plus.

We'll get to meet the puppy tomorrow night, but it will be several more weeks before we could take her home. Hopefully, we'll get more clarity to my situation over the next few weeks that will allow us to make the decision on whether or not we can make the addition.
