Our Hobbies

Food

You know a guy likes to eat when he lists "Food" among his hobbies. On this page I'll talk about restaurants I've been to and recipes I've tried (either cooked or consumed). In some ways, this dovetails in with travel, because when I travel, I seek out the "regional experience", to include food. So, I'll look for Blue Crab when in Maryland, sausage in Wisconsin, ribs in Texas, bar-b-q in Memphis, and things like that. It's always amazing what interesting habits or specialties you'll find on a "micro" scale, such as Cornish "pasties" in Mineral Point, Wisconsin.

Travel

Talk about an efficient way to burn through your free time and money all at once. Well, I guess it's better than flying where you burn money much quicker than time...

Chris' Hobbies

I have several interstests that keep my free time pretty well booked. Here is an overview, and for those of with similiar interests, a place for me to share my work, progress, or activities in these areas.

Flying

I've had an interest in aviation since I was probably about 6 or 7 years old, and decided I wanted to be a pilot after taking a scenic heliopter ride over Niagra Falls when I was 10 years old. That was the first time I had ever flown. Although my aspirations to be a military pilot did not pan out, I've been blessed to be in a position where I can afford to fly as a private pilot. On my flying page, I'll discuss aviation in general, my particular flying experiences, and also I will discuss Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Reading

OK, I don't really consider reading a hobby, as I don't make a lot of time for it and the majority of my reading is in support of other interests. But, I've gotten into the habit of keeping a book or two by my bed and I usually read a few pages each night before I turn off the lights.

Plastic Modeling

"Aren't you a bit old for that"? No one ever says it outloud, but I know what they're thinking!

I still remember buying and building my first plastic model as a little kid (I had to argue with my parents becasue I was younger than the "recommended ages" printed on the outside of the box) and my introduction to "serious modeling" as a teenager (when I saw my first copy of the magazine "Fine Scale Modeler" at the Walden Bookstore in the mall). Since then, I've found hours of enjoyment and reward (and considerable frustration, I should add) spent assembling and finishing plastic scale models. While not an expert, on my modeling pages you will (eventually) find articles and pictures of my work.

And as any wife, mother or girlfriend could attest, there are worse ways a boy could spend his time.

Elizabeth's Hobbies

Art

Elizabeth studied Art History before switching to Nursing, but she still loves art. Our time in Europe gave her a great opportunity to see many masterpieces. We hope to have a blog set up for her where she can share her experiences and thoughts regarding traveling for the sake of seeing art.
